This class focuses on fundamentals of writing composition and utilizes a classical approach. Coursework begins with narrative summaries and moves to outlining and utilizing research resources, and then progresses to various combinations of learned forms. Students gain confidence and clarity in their writing skills by exploring various types of chronological narratives across the curriculum. Learners become adept at critically assessing and writing on topics including history, science, and literature. Students will be provided feedback via instructor, writing rubrics, and peer interaction. **Although students at this age prefer independence, this course requires parent interaction and support for maximum success. Students are expected to submit a weekly essay.
Rubrics are provided for essays to be submitted and graded. Parent assistance is necessary. Some essays will be graded by parent.
*This is NOT a creative writing class. Students will learn how to write specifically across the curriculum in response to content pertinent to subject.
