Math is all around us. It is a universal language around the globe. Math can explain God's perfect hand in creation. Then why do so many people young and old groan when the topic of math is discussed? Math really can be fun to learn if it is presented in a natural way just as any spoken language is. My goal for this class is to present math concepts in a fun and meaningful way that will ignite a love and understanding of math, as well as an increased confidence in math performance. Math should be hands on, relevant, and fun. We will learn through math stories, games, and crafts. Topics we will focus on are place value, addition and subtraction with regrouping, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals, percents, algebraic thinking, how to solve word problems, and applying concepts to real world activities. If the class agrees, we will create a math escape room for other classes to complete. Curriculum
We will use “Hands-On Math and Literature with MathStart” by Don Balka & Richard Callan
and “Mathematics Readers” by Teacher Created Materials. **All materials will be provided.
