This class is like our previously titled 'Student Leadership/Student Government’ and ‘Life Skills/Adulting’ classes. As we all know, these skills are acquired and fine-tuned with time and repetition; so even if your student has taken this class under another name in the past, he/she will benefit from taking it again this year! If your student is new to the class, he/she will absorb and learn from classmates and the class experience. The purpose of this class is to give students an opportunity to develop leadership skills by organizing and carrying out school activities and service projects, as well as creating the School Yearbook. In addition to planning events that contribute to school spirit and community welfare, this student group is the voice of the student body. They help share student ideas, interests, and concerns with the school wide community. This class also provides opportunities for students to interact with their classmates and build relationships outside of the classroom. Multiple ‘team building’ activities will be coordinated on days/times outside of our normal class meeting time. Participation in these activities, such as an Escape Room, Bowling or Ropes Course, is optional; fee for these add-on activities is not included in the class fee.
There is a lot to learn about being a leader and follower, as well as learning to work with peers with similar and different knowledge and opinions. Any student that is interested in leadership, organizational behavior, event planning, or becoming more involved in the school is welcome to become involved! Since this class is (2) hours mid-day, students are welcome to eat lunch during class.
