A school garden is an innovative teaching tool and strategy that incorporates hands-on activities in a diversity of interdisciplinary lessons. Growing a garden engages students by providing a dynamic environment in which to observe, discover, experiment, nurture, and learn. Students will gain an understanding of ecosystems, food origins and nutrition, plant life cycles, and practical horticulture skills. Students will learn about many different types of gardens. They will determine the type of garden to plant at Trinity. Some types of gardens we will learn about are vegetable/fruit gardens, butterfly gardens, herb gardens, flower gardens, and vertical gardens. *A Field trip will be planned on a Friday if most of the class is interested to one of the following places Old McMickey’s Farm, Raprager’s Family Farm, Sweetwater Organic Farm, and USF Botanical Gardens, and Abby’s Organic Community Farm. At least one parent/guardian will be required to attend.
